Before you arrive

What you will want to know about staying at Tree Roots Retreat, Rayong.

  • About two and a half hours by car from central Bangkok. The route is straightforward — east on the motorway, then south through Rayong province. If you're coming from Suvarnabhumi Airport, it's closer to two hours. We can help arrange a private transfer if you prefer not to drive.
  • Each room has a king bed, air conditioning, hot water, and a private outdoor area facing the garden. The pool is outside your room. There's a mezzanine level that sleeps one extra adult. Maximum occupancy is three adults per room.
  • Garden rooms start from 3,500 THB per night (April through September and February through March) and 4,200 THB per night during peak season (October through January). All rates include 7% VAT. There's a two-night minimum, or three nights in December and January. Book direct through our website for the best inclusions — see below.
  • Yes. When you book through our website you get the same room at the same rate — plus complimentary daily sauna access, surfboard hire, and bike hire for the duration of your stay. These extras aren't included on third-party platforms. You also get direct contact with us from the moment you book, so changes, requests, and early check-in are easier to arrange. Book direct here.
  • Yes. From April through September we offer a 30-night extended stay package — a private garden room, pool access, daily sauna, and surfboard and bike hire included. Two-person occupancy. It suits remote workers, people between things, or anyone who wants a proper month somewhere quiet on the Gulf of Thailand. Rates depend on dates and availability — message us on WhatsApp or email to discuss.
  • Mae Ram Phueng Beach is a ten-minute walk from the property. It faces the Gulf of Thailand — calm water, wide sand, no jet skis. It's a local beach, not a resort strip.
  • Yes. We serve breakfast each morning. For other meals, guests are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare their own food. There are also several Thai restaurants within walking distance along Mae Ram Phueng Beach, and the Rayong morning market is a short drive — open from 5am, worth the early start.
  • That depends on how much you want to do. The forest trails start at the edge of the property — good for dawn walks and birding. There's a national park nearby for longer hikes. You can kayak to Koh Man Nok reef, take a longtail to Koh Samet (45 minutes from the pier), or ride a bike along the beach road. Or you can do nothing at all. The hammock and the pool are always there.
  • There's a sauna on site — complimentary for guests who book direct through our website. For other guests and visitors, sauna sessions are available at 400 THB per person. For training, the property has open garden space, beach access for running, and forest trails from the doorstep. We regularly host fitness groups and training camps using the grounds and surrounding area. If you're planning a training retreat, get in touch and we can discuss the setup.
  • Tree Roots Retreat is an adults-only property. All guests must be 18 or older. The retreat is built around quiet, rest, and focused practice — slow mornings, training, and time in the garden — and we keep it that way for everyone who stays.
  • Yes — well-behaved dogs are welcome. The property sits on three rai of garden, so there's plenty of space. We ask that dogs stay off the pool furniture and out of the sauna. There's a charge of 200 THB per dog per night. Let us know when you book so we can assign a ground-floor room with easy garden access. See our full pet policy.
  • Tree Roots Retreat is a quiet, open property on three rai of enclosed garden. CCTV covers the grounds and entrances. An on-site manager lives at the property and is available around the clock — reachable on WhatsApp or by phone at show number. There is no security guard — the retreat is small enough that it doesn't need one. Our approach is simple: we are here when you need us, and not when you don't.
  • Yes. The property has nine rooms across three rai of garden — ideal for a full buyout. We host team retreats, training camps, yoga groups, and private gatherings. Minimum stay is four nights for exclusive-use bookings. We can arrange catering, transport, and activity programmes. Message us on WhatsApp or email with your dates, group size, and what you have in mind.
  • Rayong keeps a gentler calendar than the postcard version of Thailand. The cool, dry months from November to February are the busiest — clear mornings, warm sea, the light at its longest. March to May turns hot and bright, when the pool and the sauna earn their place. From June through around September the green season arrives, and with it the quiet: rain tends to come in the afternoon and leave again, the beach empties, and rates soften. The 30-night long-stay runs year-round — the green season is simply when it's quietest and best value. There isn't a wrong month to come — only the one that matches the pace you're after.
  • Most visitors arrive without arranging anything in advance — Thailand grants many nationalities a visa-exempt stay on arrival that comfortably covers a week, a fortnight, or a month with us, our 30-night long-stay included. The exact length depends on your passport, and the rules change from time to time, so it's worth a two-minute check on the official Thai e-Visa site or with your nearest Thai embassy before you fly. Planning to stay longer than your entry allows? Message us and we'll point you in the right direction.
  • Yes — and many of our guests do. This is a small, quiet, adults-only property with an on-site manager and a rhythm that makes solo time feel easy rather than exposed: a hammock to yourself for the afternoon, the wood-fired sauna in the evening, and Mae Ram Phueng Beach ten minutes away on foot, where the water stays calm and the crowds don't gather. You're as private or as sociable as you'd like to be. Solo travellers — including women travelling alone — tend to find Rayong itself unhurried and low-key: less to navigate, more to simply arrive into.
  • Whatever you decide the night before. Some guests are up for the 5am fish market or a dawn walk on the forest trails while the mist still holds; others don't move much past the pool and a book. Breakfast is there each morning. The wood-fired sauna is yours daily as a direct booker, and the surfboard and bikes are by the door for the days the sea or the road calls. Nothing is scheduled that you have to keep up with. The sea is always an option, never an obligation — and so is the hammock.
  • No. The garden gives you room to move, the sauna is there for after, and how you use them is entirely your own. Whether you train seriously and know how to recover, or you're simply looking to reset, the space meets you where you are rather than asking you to keep pace with anyone else. And if you want structure, there's a fixed weekly schedule — jiu-jitsu six days a week, a Monday conditioning session, and morning flow and mobility on Wednesdays and Fridays. Join what you like, skip the rest. Beginners are welcome, and the mat and gym are open to guests from 7am to 7pm.
  • Less than you'd think. Days are warm and easy, so light clothing, swimwear and something for the sun cover most of it. Bring shoes you can walk trails in if the forest or the clifftops appeal, and a light layer for the cooler evenings between November and February. If you train, pack what you need for it — the space is here. Everything else — the sauna, the boards, the bikes — is already waiting.
  • Breakfast is made fresh each morning, and we're glad to work around vegetarian, vegan and most dietary needs — just tell us before you arrive. Beyond that, a kitchen is yours to use, the Rayong morning market is a short trip for fish and fruit straight off the boats, and there are local restaurants nearby where the food is honest and the fishermen eat too. Eat in, eat out, or a little of both.
  • Check-in is between 2pm and 7pm. If you're arriving later, just message us and we'll arrange access. Check-out is by 12pm (noon). Early check-in or late check-out is sometimes possible depending on availability — let us know in advance.
  • Free cancellation up to 72 hours before arrival. Cancellations within 72 hours are charged at one night's rate. No-shows are charged in full. For long-stay bookings and group buyouts, separate terms apply — we'll confirm these when you book.
  • We accept bank transfer, cash (Thai Baht), and all major credit and debit cards on site. For direct bookings through our website, payment is processed securely at the time of booking. For long-stay and group bookings we can arrange a deposit and balance on arrival.
  • Yes. We can arrange a private car from central Bangkok or Suvarnabhumi Airport direct to the property — around two to two and a half hours depending on traffic. Let us know your arrival details and we'll take care of it. Pricing depends on vehicle type and pickup location.
  • Message us through our website or on WhatsApp — both are the fastest way to reach us. You can also email or message through Airbnb if that's where you found us. We respond within two hours during the day (8am–8pm, Thailand time).
